Sophia rafiqi

Clinical therapist intern

I am a graduate-level counseling intern in my final year at Adler University. Adler's focus on social systems and oppression and how they interact with wellness is central to my practice.

I work primarily with adults who are navigating challenges in feeling fulfilled and empowered in their lives. As a biracial therapist who is the child of immigrants, identity and values work has played a large role in my own growth, and I especially enjoy exploring these with my clients. Areas of specialization include grief work, trauma processing, and working with anxiety and depression.

I work to be a safe, warm, and non-judgmental place for clients to show up exactly as they are. As a career changer coming to therapeutic work later in life, I hope to use my backgrounds in dance and improvisational comedy to incorporate mindfulness, somatic work, play, and humor into the therapeutic space wherever helpful. I primarily practice using Internal Family Systems and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy with a focus on the client's needs and goals to make decisions about what modalities are the most helpful in context.
